Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Introduction to Grand Alliances

Games Workshops’ Warhammer Age of Sigmar incorporates a fantasy setting for a tabletop miniature wargame. Four Grand Alliances tower over many different factions, which combined all create Warhammer Age of Sigmar.

Getting to know the Grand Alliances a little bit more will help you choose your own allegiance in Warhammer Age of Sigmar. You have the choice of which side you decide to fight with, but there certainly are no rules if you want to dip into other alliances too. Enabling you to play whichever alliances values interests you most on the day of combat.

Each Alliance has endless spells that can sit with a particular faction, which allow you to have even more fun confronting your rival on the battlefield.

Grand Alliance Order

The Grand Alliance Order are here to protect the Mortal Realms from Chaos. Order encapsulates the largest number of factions, including humans and a variety of other races who choose to defend the Mortal Realms due to their own interesting lore and backstory. They wish to do as it says on the tin, gain order.

Factions in the Grand Alliance Order from Warhammer Age of Sigmar include; Stormcast Eternals, Daughter’s of Khaine, Fyreslayers, Idoneth Deepkin, Kharadron Overlords, Lumineth Realm Lords, Seraphon, Sylvaneth and the Cities of Sigmar.

There are quite a few factions in the Order who wish to annihilate Chaos, Death and Destruction to regain control of the Mortal Realms.

Grand Alliance Chaos

Chaos worshippers love to, well, of course, cause chaos! The Grand Alliance Chaos wishes to conquer reality itself with the dark Gods of Chaos towering overall. They can also be referred to as the ‘Forces of Chaos’, destroying all those who stand in their way.

Each faction is but a slave to the Chaos Gods, containing various different races with the primary being Daemons. Factions within the Grand Alliance Chaos include Beasts of Chaos, Blades of Khorne, Disciples of Tzeentch, Hedonism of Slaanesh, Maggtokin of Nurgle, Skaven and the Slaves to Darkness.

Chaos is the second largest alliance, with a multitude of Daemons and races to choose from.

Grand Alliance Death

Death will eventually come to all, however, death doesn’t necessarily mean it is the end.
The Grand Alliance Death features factions of dead armies which you can control to take down the living. As they are the undead it could be a long fight for their opponent as they stand their ground, not taken down as easily as some may have thought.

Factions include Flesh Eater Courts, Nighthaunt, Ossiarch Bonereapers and Soulblight Gravelords

If you’re interested in summoning models, take a look at the Soulblight Gravelords. Using Nagash, in the Hero Phase you have the ability to summon up to five models with the keyword ‘Summonable’ or friendly ‘Ossiarch Bonereapers’ to the battlefield; including those that have died. Death is not the end for the Grand Alliance Death.

Grand Alliance Destruction

Charging through the Mortal Realms, commonly known as the ‘Forces of Destruction’, this alliance is interested in combat most of all. The Grand Alliance Destruction holds the factions Gloomspite Gitz, Ogre Mawtribes, Orruk Warclans and the Sons of Behemat.

As this Alliance includes a vast selection of Behemoths, the Sons of Behemat being a prime example, this alliance can be looked at as very effective in combat.

The Sons of Behemat are a faction made up of monsters of astonishing size. They can fit into allied armies, but can also be used as a standalone army of just behemoths. No need for pushing around lots of little models.

We have only tipped the iceberg surrounding the information on the Four Grand Alliances for Games Workshops’ Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The number of factions you can choose within these orders, enables you to choose wisely. Whether that be you prefer to choose aesthetics or rules: it is your choice whom you bring with you to conquer your foes.
