Work Experience With Wayland Games
Community is at the heart of Wayland Games and an integral part of our ethos. We know how essential the people around us are, from our online customers to our local players, and we’ve been working hard to help support them via different initiatives. Some of these include our Going Green Pledge and fundraising for Mental Health UK.
Our most recent partnership with BEP Group (Business Education Partnership (UK) Ltd) means we can help the younger generations in our local communities by providing them with work experience placements here at the Wayland Games headquarters.
Who Are BEP?
Delivering work experience since 1995 and based in East London and Essex, the BEP Group (Business Education Partnership (UK) Ltd) is a charitable organisation dedicated to assisting young people through alternative education and work experience placements. Operating its own independent school, it offers comprehensive alternative education to up to 90 students in Years 9, 10, and 11. Every year, over 5,000 young people undertake a placement organised and/or supported by BEP Group.
What Can Students Expect From Wayland’s Workplace Culture?
At Wayland Games, diversity is the cornerstone of our culture. We champion inclusivity, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their gender or any disabilities they may have, is valued and empowered. We welcome and value the distinctive viewpoints and skills that individuals with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) offer, understanding that their involvement enhances our shared journey.
By fostering an environment where differences are accepted and celebrated, we cultivate a sense of belonging for everyone. Our commitment to equality means that gender discrimination has no place here; opportunities are based solely on merit, creating a level playing field where talent and dedication shine brightest. We flourish as a team in an environment that celebrates diversity in every aspect, fostering innovation and achievement through the strength of inclusivity. This mirrors the DfE’s (Department for Education’s) stance on Equality and Diversity, and many of the students who have been on a work experience placement with us so far come from various backgrounds, particularly with SEND.
As individuals, we all have areas we are comfortable with and things that push us out of our comfort zone. This is why we provide tailor-made roles within the business for students who come to us for work experience.
Who Organises Work Experience Placements At Wayland Games?
Toby and Joe, are the go to contacts for Work Experience Placements, ensuring students who come to us have the best experience and get the most out of their time here.
What Does A Typical Placement Look Like?
Toby will arrange the placement with BEP and will then notify Joe.
⬇️
An interview will be arranged via phone call or face-to-face, depending on preference. The purpose of the interview is to provide the student with an experience as if it were an actual job interview (the placement is not dependent on the interview; it is solely for experience purposes).
⬇️
The student will have the interview at the agreed time and date with Joe. This may be conducted with a Learning Support assistant present or carried out independently.
⬇️
The student will arrive on the agreed-upon date and time for their first day of placement. Joe will show them around the building and run through our Health and Safety procedures. Then, Joe will introduce the student to a member of the team, who they will shadow and learn their first task.
⬇️
Typically a student will spend 2-3 weeks on a placement, learning the different tasks of the area they are carrying out their placement in, learning the expectations of an employer and also finding out what they enjoy doing.
