Striving To Be Plastic Free At Wayland Games
In July 2022, we began our journey to Going Green at Wayland Games by pledging to make changes to practices and conscious decisions within the business that impact the environment. Exactly two years later, we have come a long way.
Progress Recap
July 2022 - We announced the Hasbro Recycling Scheme at the Wayland Games Centre.
September 2022 âOur warehouse introduced environmentally friendly void fill and ensured that any plastic void fill sent from suppliers and other companies was repurposed, which you can read about in our blog, Letâs Recycle That Packaging.
October 2023â In our blog, Keeping It Green In Manufacturing, we gave insight into how our plastic manufacturing and recycling of waste plastic is managed, ensuring all areas of Wayland Games are included in our Green Initiative.
February 2024â We delved into the details of how we ensure our organisation is eco-friendly in our blog, Delivering Sustainability: Our Eco-Concious UK Couriers. This is not just inside the Wayland Games building but up until the moment our customers receive their orders, by considering what couriers are doing to be eco-friendly.
Our Warehouse Manager, Joe, has been making every effort to make the warehouse as environmentally friendly as possible. Once again, he has managed to find a way to significantly reduce our use of plastic and harmful solvents.
Introducing the new addition to the warehouse packing stations, the water-activated gum tape machines:
How does it work?
The machine wets the tape and automatically cuts it to the length by selecting the relevant button. The operator then transfers the tape to the open box, positions it on the open flaps, and presses down, ensuring it adheres to the box, providing security and strength.
Water-activated tape is made of paper with a starch adhesive and often includes fibreglass-reinforced strands for additional strength. It needs to be "activated" with water for it to adhere to the carton.
What does a Wayland Games Packing Workstation Look Like?
The only plastic seen on a packing desk these days are bubble bags and plastic packaging received from other organisations. We have even stopped using rolls of bubble wrap to prevent waste. Customers can easily reuse these bubble bags to protect a favourite, delicate model or send their fragile parcels.
