Support Your Local Toy Drive This Christmas
It’s that time of year again - Christmas is coming and, with that, the expectation of gifts and giving. However, this can be a very challenging time for families, especially with the rise in the cost of living that we are currently experiencing, so Toy Drives are stepping up to give a little bit of Christmas magic to as many children and young people as possible.
This Christmas, we chose to donate a selection of games to Southend Council’s ninth annual Toy Drive, with the aim of supporting them as they ensure all of Southend-on-Sea’s vulnerable children and young people receive a gift.
The gifts are distributed to local children’s centres, food banks, refugees, and children’s parties set up by local charities, and are given to vulnerable children and young people who may not have the opportunity to celebrate Christmas. Since the Toy Drive began, 10,288 gifts from the Toy Drive have been donated through local charities and programs.
So how did Wayland Games support our local Toy Drive?
We picked a variety of LEGO, Orchard Toys, and board games suitable for children and young people aged 3 - 17 years old, and dropped them off at our local council collection point. With Ross’s driving, we had them there in no time and we have been told that the council elves had them wrapped and ready to be delivered asap.
What can you do?
If you’re looking to support your local community this year, here’s what you can do:
See if your local council, school, or community centre is running a Toy Drive.
Give to, or volunteer at, your local Food Bank.
Donate toys to your local Hospital’s Children’s Ward.
Support a Community Fridge.
Do check in with anywhere you intend to donate gifts or food to as there may be certain criteria that need to be met prior to them accepting donations.
Have a Merry Christmas!
We hope everyone has a Merry Christmas this year and enjoys this season of giving as we support each other this holiday season.
