With this expansion, you’ll be playing with six new types of cards (twenty new cards in total), cards so awesome you’ll wonder how you ever played Exploding Kittens without them.

If you thought your future was doomed after picking up an ‘Exploding Kitten’, wait until you come across the ‘Imploding Kitten’ card. Once found, the ‘Imploding Kitten’ goes back into the deck face-up, then alongside avoiding the Exploding Kittens, you have to do everything you can to not pick it up.

Why? Because there is no escaping the Imploding Kitten! ‘Defuse’ cards won’t save you. If you draw it from the deck you are completely out of the game.

The ‘Alter the Future’ Card

The Imploding Kittens expansion also introduces the ‘Alter the Future’ card which lets you see the next three cards on the pick-up pile and change them. You essentially decide what you pick up next. Depending on whether you’re a good samaritan or not, you can use this card to not just save yourself, but to jeopardise your opponents, tactically forcing them out of the game by placing them at their demise of an ‘Exploding’ or ‘Imploding Kitten’.

The ‘Reverse’ Card

Then there’s ‘Reverse’ cards which are extremely useful. Bringing back painful vindictive memory of tactically playing Uno, the Reverse card can be used to avoid the inevitable, as it works so you can skip your turn. If you are aware of the next card and are sure you don’t want to pick up, the ‘Reverse’ card is a great way to escape the trouble, and throw it onto the person next to you.

The ‘Cone of Shame’

Do you know someone who is always asking whose turn is it?

Welcome, the ‘Cone of Shame’.

Now, thanks to this card game, you can force this player to wear a cone during game-play for shamefully not paying attention. To deter anyone from asking the same question, the cone features an arrow on it,  so everybody else playing can see which direction the flow of the game runs. However, any player to ask again will relieve the current player of their cone, and be forced to wear it themselves.

The ‘Feral Cat’ Card

There is also a new addition to the cat cards. You can collect these throughout the game as two-of-a-kind or three-of-a-kind... to be devious and steal from the other players around you. If you have two cat cards, you may play these as an action towards any player of your choice, but sadly with only two cat cards, that action is picking any card from their hand - but be cautious as with two-of-a-kind; you cannot see what you are picking. However, playing three-of-a-kind allows you to name the card and steal it, so make sure you are aware of who has a defuse, and play your cat cards accordingly! The new cat card, ‘Feral Cat’ adds another cat to the deck, giving you more of an opportunity to tactically steal from other players... to your advantage!

The ‘Draw from the Bottom’ Card

And finally, this Exploding Kittens expansion introduces the ‘Draw from the Bottom’ card. This is a gamble whereby you choose to take a risk or not. The ‘Draw from the Bottom’ card is certainly not the card you want to be left with at the end of a game when the Imploding Kitten and a few Exploding Kittens are left in the pile, but use this at the right time and you can save yourself a ‘Diffuse’ card, or even save yourself from been thrown out of the game.

The Imploding Kittens expansion is an amazing addition to the original game and really changes the game dynamic. If you’re looking to ramp-up your games of Exploding Kittens, and force yourself and your friends to be more devious and tactical to win the game, then this is the perfect card game expansion for you.

You can buy Exploding Kittens and its’ expansion Imploding Kittens at Wayland Games. The game has been so popular, there’s yet another expansion for it; be sure to also check out Streaking Kittens too!
