Wayland Games Earth Day Miniature Painting Competition 2024

Spring is finally in full swing at Wayland Games HQ, and with it has arrived one of our favourite holidays - Earth Day! Earth Day is an annual celebration that honours the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth's natural resources for future generations. As a company we have pledged to go green and support our community in doing the same as we become more environmentally friendly - and Earth Day is a great opportunity to further commit to our green goals

To coincide with Earth Day, we ran a nature-themed painting competition with a focus on the elements. Staff were instructed to enter a miniature reflective of at least one element of the natural world: Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and (as an addition) Metal. The event would be judged by a panel and awards would be given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and a further honourable mention. There would also be a people’s choice award to aspire to!

Staff rushed to their piles of shame to select a relevant theme and start painting - keep reading to see their progress!

Work In Progress Gallery

Here you can take a look at some of our staff’s works in progress. Some chose to use official miniatures from their favourite game systems, while others 3D-printed their own, meaning no two miniatures selected were alike!

Awards

With the judging taking place at our International Women’s Day Bake-off (read that blog here!), we were ready to announce the winners, runners-up, and honourable mentions!

Our honourable mentions from the judges went to Freya and Max, for the Click-Clack from Mythos and the modified Horus Heresy Cerastus Knight Castigator respectively.

Third place went to Taylor’s Earth Elemental Lord, second to Rob’s Lady Of The Grove, and our judge’s first place went to Jess’s Lava Snail!

For our People’s Choice, staff made their choices and put their votes into a ballot box - and we ended up with a tie in the rankings!

Rob reappeared in second place, tied with Max’s Castigator, and Mark’s Britannia Class Heavy Battleship In A Bottle took first place!

A big well done to all the staff who entered and used their own time to create mini masterpieces. We always love to see their hard work and can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
